A. Whenever the city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street, the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons, the public works director or their designee(s) is authorized to designate such street or streets by appropriate signs as “truck routes” for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons.

B. When any such truck route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other except that nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons coming from a “truck route” having ingress and egress by direct route to and from restricted streets when necessary for the purpose of making pickups and deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on such restricted streets or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon such restricted streets for which a building permit has previously been obtained.

C. The provisions of this section shall not apply to (1) passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission, (2) any vehicle owned by a public utility, or (3) any vehicle under contract to the city.

D. The following streets and parts of streets are declared to be truck routes for the movement of vehicles that exceed a maximum gross vehicle weight of five tons:

1. Santa Rosa Street from Marsh Street northwesterly to the city limits;

2. Higuera Street between Santa Rosa and Osos Streets;

3. Marsh Street, between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets;

4. Osos Street, between Higuera Street and Santa Barbara Street;

5. Santa Barbara Street;

6. Broad Street (Highway 227), southerly of South Street;

7. South Street, between Broad Street and Higuera Street;

8. Higuera Street, southerly of South Street;

9. Madonna Road, between Higuera Street and Los Osos Valley Road;

10. Los Osos Valley Road, northwesterly of Highway 101;

11. Prado Road, between Higuera Street and Highway 101.

Said streets are also shown on the map attached to the ordinance codified in this section, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk.

E. For purposes of complying with California Vehicle Code Section 35702, the city council identifies as an alternate route for trucks wishing to use the restricted portions of Route 227 northerly of South Street, the following truck routes:

1. Santa Rosa Street, from Marsh Street northwesterly to Highway 101;

2. Higuera Street, between Santa Rosa and Osos Streets;

3. Marsh Street, between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets;

4. Osos Street, between Higuera Street and Santa Barbara Street;

5. Santa Barbara Street;

6. South Street, between Broad Street and Higuera Street;

7. Higuera Street, South Street to Madonna Road;
