An employee may be separated for medical reasons when a chronic or frequently recurring mental or physical condition renders the employee inefficient incapable of performing the duties of this position. At the request of the appointing authority, the personnel director may require an employee to submit to an examination by one or more medical examiners. If the results of the examination indicate that the employee is incapacitated for performance of required duties, the employee shall be placed on sick leave as a preliminary to restoration of adequate mental or physical fitness or disability retirement or disability separation.
