Any regular or probationary city employee, when duly called to serve on any jury, and when not excluded therefrom, or when subpoenaed to appear as a witness at any trial, shall be compensated for the time required to be spent under the jurisdiction of the court by an amount equal to the difference between the pay he/she received as a juror and his/her regular daily rate received from the city. The difference between the time required to be spent on jury duty and the normal work day of the employee shall be spent performing the employee’s regular job assignments unless the department head, upon approval of the personnel director, determines this not to be practical.
